I'm new to this blog and to blogging in general. I plan to work backwards to post comments on the records Scott has identified, which I also own and value. I have 390 jazz albums from the 1970s and appreciate his commitment to serving this underappreciated era.
ReplyDeleteConference of the Birds is one of the early ECM albums. Those who think they have the ECM style figured out may be shocked to find Sam Rivers and Anthony Braxton sharing the front line of this quartet. But it's one of the best "high energy" recordings that also happens to be beautiful. The communication among all 4 players is extraordinary. Dave Holland and Barry Altschul are the forces behind the two lead birds, and the result is magical. The album was chosen by the editors of the Penguin Guide as one of the best 1,000 albums in the history of jazz.
