When I saw your listing for Gato Barbieri, I realized I had absolutely none of his albums. So I checked him out online and listened to samples of several of his albums. First, Barbieri is a magnificent player with a wonderful sax tone, two, he clearly made a few stellar albums, three, he also clearly recorded a lot of schlock. Much of his later output is pure commercial dreck – The smooth jazz of the 70s and 80's. But earlier in his catalog he had some real gems. Bolivia and Under Fire definitely tower over his later stuff. But I found two others, Fenix and the live Montreux date, El Pampero, that really deliver the goods (and I downloaded them in a quick minute). Of course, and sadly, the schlock is what sells the most. Go figure.
