Solo piano albums require a lot to sustain interest. Paul Bley seems to have an endless stream of ideas that he can express without accompaniment. So do Monk, Jarrett, Corea, and a few others. Bley generally assumes a spare approach to solo playing, unlike Keith Jarrett. His playing seems soft but angular and certainly not repetitive. I like this album but do not return to it often. Along with the other ECM albums of the 1970s, it speaks to the listener who invests the effort to hear. Well worth "studying" but I never forged a strong enough connection to fully appreciate the performances. Top ratings from the critics, however.
