Barry Harris as leader! What makes this album so great is the elegant interpretations of tunes that have been played so many (too many?) times by so many artists. Singling out one example, I have come to hate the song "Hot House" but Harris and trio turn it into an classy loping "modern" tune. Same for the rest of the program.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the "Elemental" reissue. There was a Prevue CD series of Xanadu records back in 1998, marketed as audiophile versions. The original LPs of the few Prevue CDs I tried were much better. Harris Plays Dameron is especially well recorded and pressed on Xanadu vinyl.
