After contributing as sideman and leader to several classic sessions of the 1950s and 1960s, Drew moved to Denmark where he appeared on countless sessions with visiting Americans and European groups. His pairing with the amazing Danish bassist Niels-Henning Orsted-Pedersen (NHOP) was frequent and rewarding.
ReplyDelete"Dark Beauty" and "If You Could See Me Now" are simple trio sessions with NHOP and Tootie Heath. SteepleChase records puts a lot of care into their recordings and tends to keep titles in print longer than larger companies. The two albums were released as a 2CD set on SteepleChase, and they are both wonderful.
Kenny Drew Jr. is Kenny Sr.'s son - a pianist of great prowess himself.
