This is an excellent concert. MJQ always sounds terrific in either studio or concert hall. I have the original vinyl but have ordered the Complete concert which has 8 additional tracks and programmed in the proper order. One problem with the 2-LP set is the lack of continuity between tracks, evident by the fading of applause after each tune. That removes the "being there" effect. Also, a few of the additional tracks are unknown to me so I await further education on the MJQ repertoire.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this turned out NOT to be MJQ's final recording. They reunited for at least 2 studio albums on Pablo, "Echoes" (1984) and "Topsy" (1985), both recommended. Also "For Ellington" from 1988 - not especially recommended.
