I've loved this album ever since I picked in out of a cutout rack just after it was released. Many Bill Evans fans might object to his 1970s work, and his movement beyond trio formats to include harmonicas, tenors, and even electric piano. But these are normal progressions for most artists. All of the tunes on this record are expertly played and create wonderful portraits of jazz. Too bad Bill was forever tied to his wonderful trio work; these later records are well worth investigating.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if you only want the trio setting, check out "You Must Believe in Spring" (Warner, 1977) with Eddie Gomez and Eliot Zigmund. It's not only a solid trio outing, the sonics are magnificent, especially on vinyl. Not hard to find, so go get it!!
