This album beautifully captures Carla Bley's singular aesthetic.
Her bands don't sound like anyone else's. That's a tribute to her compositions and her artistic vision.
More Carla Bley
Dinner Music (WATT/ECM, 1977) immediately preceded this live album. It's also an exceptional LP.
Definitely in agreement with Scott on this one. The band on tour took more chances than in the studio. It's good that the 1980s produced two exceptional albums: Fleur Carnivore (live) and Social Studies (studio). Of course, Carla still works with new and revisited material, mainly with kindred souls Steve Swallow and Andy Sheppard. A remarkable 50+ year career in jazz!
